In 1991, Dr. Győző Sebestyén, a Hungarian-born French physician and biologist, visited us as the head of the IVF center in Le Havre, and invited Dr. János Konc, a gynecologist from our hospital, to present and teach their successful IVF program.

At the request of Dr. János Konc, Dr. Katalin Kanyó, a biologist, joined in 1992 and became a dedicated specialist in In Vitro Fertilization in Normandy. The Buda Fertility (IVF) Center was opened on August 11, 1992. In 1993, the first three healthy IVF babies were born at Szent János Hospital.

Today, the IVF Center remains one of the largest reproductive centers in Hungary, located in Building 9 on the Szent János Hospital campus. It boasts some of the most advanced equipment and a highly skilled team of professionals in the country.

Following the unfortunate passing of Professor Dr. János Konc during Pentecost in 2023, his student, Dr. József Zeke, Ph.D., assumed leadership of the institute. As of November 1, 2023, the center became integrated into the Dunamenti REK Reproduction Center Ltd. network of institutions.

The professional work here is characterized by adherence to current European trends. We apply the latest achievements in science and biotechnology with autonomy and grounded in our own experience. Uniquely among Hungarian centers, we use the “Spindle View” technique, which makes it possible to visualize the spindle that carries the genetic material within a living oocyte. This technique allows for a safer and more successful ICSI program. Similarly valuable in micromanipulation is the IMSI technique, which enables selection of the most suitable spermatozoa under 6-8000x magnification to improve fertilization outcomes. We perform PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis) in collaboration with the Istenhegyi Genetic Diagnostic Center, strictly based on genetic indication. PGS (Preimplantation Genetic Screening) is not permitted under current regulations.

Since 2004, we have been performing oocyte cryopreservation, primarily in cases involving cancer treatments, radiation and chemotherapy, endometriosis, genetic indications, or high-risk occupations. However, social indications, such as extending fertility, are not permitted under the current regulations.

From 1992 to the present day, nearly 30,000 IVF and approximately 12,000 artificial insemination treatments have resulted in the birth of almost 13,000 children, thanks to the dedication of our team.
